Downloading & Viewing Instructions

The purpose of this area is the professional discussion of diagnosis and treatment planning or indeed treatment. It is designed to be an electronic method for far reaching consultation among clinicians globally and would be especially usefiul when unusual or difficult cases are encountered.

The objective is to invite clinicians in the Asian Pacific region or globally to place fully documented cases on this forum. Photographs of casts and the patient's dentition as well as full mouth radiographs can be sent to HKDA at hkda@hkda.org to be placed on this forum.

All case presentation should get prior approval from PICC / PEC before putting onto website.

Clinicians worldwide will be able to log into this forum and download the required images, and view them at their leisure. Comments on diagnosis, treatment planning or treatment can be placed after careful perusal of the downloaded material. This will be the beginning of tele-dental consultancy albeit in a simplified format. It is sincerely hoped that this forum will lead to the enhancement of clinical skills as well as broaden the practising clinician's treatment planning perspective. It is just this honing of skills on this cyber melting pot that will inevitably foster friendships among dentists worldwide and the idea of a global dental community serving the global population.

Requirements for material to be placed for presentation.
On the whole material placed should be sent to HKDA in electronic form. However as many do not have facilities for scanning in radiographs, we have the following suggested guidelines:

If you do not have a scanner you can ask a graphic design company or any friend or even a dentist that has scanning facilities for radiographs. The basic equipment required are a flatbed scanner with a transparency adapter option installed.

Radiographs should be scanned at approximately 300dpi and saved as gif file. we have experiented with resolutions and particular trade-offs and feel that 300 dpi is the optimal resolution to be of clinical diagnostic value with the present low bandwidth of Internet access. Hopefully when we all have broadband access to the Internet the scanned resolution requirement will increase and maybe we could tele-dental consult in real time! Alternatively if you have difficulty in scanning the material, you could send the relevant radiographs, photographs and full description of the case to HKDA for presentation on HKDA Online. If you happen to live in Hong Kong then this would be easily and quickly accomplished. We welcome material globally and will send the necessary material back to you by post.

Text Files
A full description of the case with case history, medical details and any relevant information that may provide a clue to the diagnosis or treatment plan should be included. We would prefer text to be placed in HTML format (ie HyperText Markup Language) as this is easier to place on the HKDA Online server. However we will accept text in either plain text format (Ascii) or preferably Rich Text format (RTF).

It is advisable to place a copyright notice at the end of the text.
